How Does Guest Experience Play A Role In Hosting A Great Party - Mars Panlasigui, Waldorf Astoria

Welcome to How To Be A Host podcast, hosted by Charles Ewudo. The show features experts, veterans, movers, and shakers in the nightlife and hospitality worlds here to show you everything you need to know about hosting a party.

There’s a lot to consider when planning a party from themes, and location to managing the guest list. But most of us intend to overlook the most important element of party planning – and that is the overall guest experience. So how should you think about the guest experience when hosting a party?

In this episode, joined by Mars Panlasigui, Assistant Director of Front Office Operations at Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills who’s an expert in this area, discusses in depth everything you need to know about guests’ experience.

The Waldorf Hotel is located in Beverly Hills even with its rich history and strong brand, it knows how to attract a diverse clientele, including old money and new money, as well as creators and tastemakers. “I think the impression is that because we are the Waldorf Astoria, the first one opened in, like the 1980s, if I’m not mistaken, the impression is it attracts the old rich blood, but we are in the middle of Beverly Hills, we do have a fantastic rooftop. And that already basically attracts all kinds of clientele.”

“So in terms of our clientele, we do have a combination of both. I'd like to say old money and new money.”

When it comes to guest experience and event planning for high-end events, having a magic moment in the customer journey can leave a lasting impression. “So you have to think about the guest experience more of like a guest journey – so they experienced this in the start when they get to your property or to get to your place.”

Highlight: Think about how to be resourceful and how to pull resources together to execute the event. It’s about curating all those elements together of what your vision kind of is. And then it’s working with the people that you’ve worked with in the past or you know, to kind of mold the guest journey for the event.
